Disgraced Former Children’s TV Presenter Nikky Sparkz Returns!
Sparkz is back with ‘Double A Side’ release, ‘Forever Sore’ and ‘A Fabulous Being’
Former children’s television presenter Nikky Sparkz has re-emerged with a debut single five years after being dismissed by the BBC for taking magic mushrooms backstage during filming of his Saturday morning show, Saturday BOOM! BOOM!
Sparkz was sacked in 2021 after production staff discovered he had consumed a large quantity of the psychedelic marchantiophyta prior to going on air. The incident, which occurred during rehearsals at the programme’s Manchester studio, led to immediate suspension and subsequent termination of his contract. The BBC described the behaviour at the time as “wholly inappropriate and incompatible with a presenter of a flagship children’s programme”.
The presenter, who had fronted ‘Saturday BOOM! BOOM!’ for eight seasons, withdrew from public life shortly afterwards.
Now Sparkz has announced the release of two songs, ‘Forever Sore’ and ‘A Fabulous Being’ released on the independent SparkzSounds Label.
Speaking ahead of the release, Sparkz said the intervening years had been spent reflecting on his actions and reassessing his direction.
“It’s taken this time to really understand myself, to come to terms with my demons and to discover who I really am,” he said. “I’ve always loved music and played in bands. These songs are the result of many long nights in the studio.”
The tracks were written and produced alongside Matthew Sweetapple, who previously worked with Sparkz during his television career.
Industry observers will be watching closely to see whether audiences are willing to separate the musician from the scandal that ended his broadcasting career. For his part, Sparkz says he hopes the public will approach his new chapter “with an open mind”.
